Proximity Marketing in the area!

The process of Bluetooth-based proximity marketing involves setting up Bluetooth servers in a particular location, and then sending content which can be text, images, audio or video to Bluetooth enabled phones within range of the server.

Due to security fears, many people keep their Bluetooth turned off. Because of this, regions where bluetooth proximity marketing is in operation are accompanied by advising via traditional media - such as posters, television screens or field marketing teams - suggesting people make their Bluetooth phones 'discoverable' in order to receive free content. A 'discoverable' Bluetooth phone within range of the server is automatically sent a message asking if the user would like to receive the free content. Future developments should mean that the units can also receive content.

Scenarios include things such as:

• Sending content to those that visit your exhibition stand
• Internal memos throughout your premises
• Enhancing traditional outdoor advertising with rich media
